Kristi Ah You for Mayor of Modesto
I would be honored if you took a moment to watch this video on my candidacy for Mayor of Modesto. Thank You and have a safe holiday weekend, Happy Labor Day!
Kristi volunteers with local organizations including the Salvation Army, gleefully ringing a bell during the holidays to raise money to help those less fortunate. Among her many achievements, Kristi counts being elected as District 3’s City Council Member as a source of immense pride. Her service in that role the past five years, and continued care for our community are driven by her passion of leading with kindness and respect.
Kristi's prior awards include:
After over twenty years of civic engagement and looking toward a new chapter in her life, Kristi previously intended not to seek re-election to the City Council this year. However, the havoc COVID-19 has unleashed on the stability of our city quickly put Kristi at a crossroads with a tough decision to make for herself and her family. Acknowledging the learning curve expected of newly elected officials, Kristi understands Modesto simply does not have the time to spare. Walking into the sunset, taking with her over two decades of committed civil service would be a detriment to the community Kristi has dedicated to serving for so many years. Even in a time of personal transition, Kristi Ah You remains committed to the people of Modesto.
Serving as the District 3 City Council Member for the past five years, Kristi is also currently Vice Mayor and is prepared to hit the ground running. Previously serving on the city finance committee, Kristi currently sits on the city audit committee.
Having served on the city finance committee, Kristi understands the rigors of onboarding a newly elected mayor to the complexities and realities of city finances. What is typically a two year process for a mayor new to city hall, Modesto simply cannot afford to spend the resources needed during this time of a "new normal" as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Modesto is on the verge of financial crisis, with a fiscal year projected loss of over $20 million. Kristi has the experience and training necessary to begin working for the city’s citizens and businesses immediately upon swearing in as Mayor of Modesto.
LEADERSHIP - COMMITMENT - EXPERIENCE
Kristi Ah You for Mayor
Committed to Finding Solutions
As mayor, I will continue working with local organizations and committees, implementing multiple solutions to assist the nearly 1,600 homeless and 22,000 eminently homeless in Modesto.
The Future of Our Trees
On this first day of fall, we turn our gaze to the shifting colors of our city's canopy of trees. As your mayor, I will prioritize funding that insures the health and vitality of our city trees for years to come.
Tree City USA
The Tree City USA program is a great opportunity to celebrate the importance of an urban tree canopy and improve care of these vital city trees. For more information, visit the Arbor Day Foundation https://www.arborday.org/programs/treecityusa/.
